The GEODE Initiative

Software

Since 1992, GEODE Initiative researchers have been developing environments for the visualization and analysis of geographic data that are designed to meet the needs of students and teachers in classrooms from middle school through college. These software tools are the result of significant research on supportive investigation tools that provide students with access to powerful functionality and the support they require to take advantage of that functionality. These tools are:

My World GIS™

My World is a Geographic Information System (GIS) that enables users to construct interactive maps and analyze them using database and geospatial queries. It is implemented in Java and works on any platform that supports Java, including Windows, Macintosh OS X, and Unix.

September 2008. A recent change to Quicktime causes WorldWatcher versions 3.0.5 and earlier for Windows to crash. This problem occurs with versions of Quicktime more recent than 7.2. An updated version of WorldWatcher that fixes this problem is now available from our download page. Be sure to follow the instructions for uninstalling your previous version of Windows before installing the new version.

August 2007. An update to the Windows operating system that was released during the 2006-7 school year caused WorldWatcher for Windows to stop working properly. If you find that WorldWatcher will not open files correctly, you must update to the most recent version of WorldWatcher for Windows (Version 3.0.6, released in September 2008). Click here to go to the download page for WorldWatcher for Windows. Be sure to follow the instructions for uninstalling your previous version of Windows before installing the new version.

As of November 1, 2007 the GEODE Initiative is no longer able to provide end user support for WorldWatcher. If you purchased WorldWatcher from It's About Time, you should contact It's About Time directly.

The GEODE Initiative was previously known as the WorldWatcher Project.
